I glance at my calendar…yes, it is July. I open the door and walk outside…hmm, it sure feels more like March or April. I sigh…and grab my sweatshirt, again.
It is hard for me to choose joy when the weather does not “feel” joyful. I love the heat, the sun, the water, the sand. It is not hard for me to smile and my heart to sing when my wardrobe consists solely of a bathing suit, shorts, T-shirt and flip flops.
However, as a Christ follower, my joy does not, or should not, come from such unpredictable things as the weather, but should instead come from the LORD, who is unchanging, steadfast and holds creation in his hands.
Reading through the Psalms, I came to “a hymn in praise of the King of creation”, Psalm 29. Instead of complaining of another rainy day, thunderstorm or hailstorm, I am challenged to marvel and rejoice at our God’s mighty power and majesty. As I read, the phrase, “the voice of the LORD” repeats seven times. I urge you to read through Psalm 29 and take the time to ponder each of the descriptions of God’s voice…and rejoice!!
Prayer: I praise you Lord, our creator, for you are powerful, majestic. You know that I am weak. Thank-you for giving me strength and peace for this day, that you have made. I rejoice! Amen.
Psalm 118:24 This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Philippians 4:4 rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again; Rejoice!
