Only in Calgary is it 30C on Monday and 7C by Wednesday. But I suppose this crazy weather does help us transition into all that is waiting for us just around the corner in September. I am always a bit sad to say goodbye to summer, yet I’m also excited about what lies ahead in.
As you have all heard me say (and demonstrate many times), Women’s Ministries at Foothills is all about Making Connections… with God, each other and the world. This year our focus will be on Making Connections with Each Other.
As followers of Jesus, we have been described as both the “Family of God” and the “Body of Christ.” Both these images help us as we begin to grasp the mystery of the intimate connection we share with each other through the Spirit of God. This year we long to intentionally embrace and live out the reality of that connection as we learn, grow and live in community.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, our theme passage, reminds us that we need each other. We accomplish more, we find help when we fall, comfort when we feel alone and support in life’s battles. Not only can we find these things in each other; we also give these things to each other. That is the beauty of real community. We come together to both give and receive. We bring our weaknesses and our strengths and by God’s grace are enriched and strengthened along the journey. But it only happens when we step forward, take the time, begin to know one another and share life. Join us this fall as we study, serve, laugh, pray, cry and grow together.
An African proverb has said… If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together. Fall is just around the corner. As you plan where you will put your time and energy this fall check out our ministry options and find a place to connect … I know you’ll be glad you did.
