SUMMER CONNECTIONS: When Life Disappoints

Summer–warmth, sunshine, green, green, green: flowers, friends, family, fun, relaxation.

That is the way life was meant to be.  Right?

Then where do disappointments, loneliness, pain come from?

Are there purposes in struggles?

What am I to learn as I suffer through trials?

This past year and a half we have been struggling with a deep hurt.  In the midst of pain, God’s Word is precious and real and strong.  Whatever our need, it is there with assurance and direction and comfort.  What joy to know God’s personal presence as I direct my thoughts to His character and praise Him!  It is not the joy of suffering, but joy in knowing God is there and He cares.  He sends glimpses of His love and provision in many ways.  His peace inhabits my praises.

The Lord is my Strength, my personal bravery and my invincible army: He makes my feet like hinds’ feet and will make me to walk (not to stand still in terror, but to walk) and make spiritual progress upon my high places of trouble, suffering, or responsibility.   Habakkuk 3:19 (Amplified)

Take some time to read and reflect on Romans 8: 31-39.  Listen to In Christ Alone by Keith and Kristyn Getty

Father God, You are God alone.  There is no other.  Thank You for the beauty all around me.  Please help me, when struggles come, to focus my thoughts on Your goodness and faithfulness and love and power. As I walk in obedience to You, You will cause me to make spiritual progress even in the trials.   In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
