Winter Women’s Studies

Thursday, Jan 21 – Thursday, Mar 11 (9:30 am – 11:30 am)

I am excited about all the things we are going to learn together as we study God’s Word and share life together in this New Year. There are many study options for you to choose from this winter. Please read through the descriptions below, noting the date and time of each class. We are prepared to offer some classes online and some in person.

Due to current Alberta Health Services directives ALL CLASSES WILL BEGIN ONLINE.  When gathering restrictions are changed those classes designed to meet in-person will move to an in-person format at the church.

To find even more information to help choose your study, follow the links below each description. There you will find a video introduction to the class by the teacher and a video trailer about the study. Next, register online at http://www.bit.ly/womensstudies2021. An email will be sent to you sometime after January 15, regarding class details, where to pick up your book (if you purchased one) and the location of your in-person classes and the Zoom link for your on-line classes.

All of our studies will begin the week of January 18-22. The number of weeks varies between classes. Please take note of the length of the class in the description. There will be no classes on Feb 11.

If you could use help covering the cost, subsidy is available. We would love to help you to attend.  Please contact Pastor Carla for more info @ carla@foothillsalliance.com.

Cancellation is non-refundable.

Elijah: Faith and Fire by Priscilla Shirer (7 weeks)

Designed for In-person but will begin ONLINE (moving to in-person when  AHS restrictions change) Thursday 9:30AM, Led by Karen Vine & Mandy Trask

When we read about the heroes in our Bible—people like Moses, Noah, Gideon and Elijah—we sometimes wish we could experience the power and might of God the way they did.  Who wouldn’t want to part the Red Sea, or call down fire on Mount Carmel?  How amazing would some of those experiences be?  When reading about these Bible heroes, we sometimes forget they were real live people who struggled, had weaknesses and had to learn to know and trust God before they could be heroes for Him.  Join Mandy Trask and Karen Vine as they teach Elijah, a 7-part Priscilla Shirer study.  Here we’ll learn how Elijah’s faith and character were formed, and learn that God wants the opportunity to form those same traits in us.

Anxious for Nothing by Max Lucado (7 weeks)

Online Thursday 9:30AM, Led by Daryl Ginter & Karen Colburne

Anxiety seems to be an active presence in today’s world.  But, as Max Lucado points out: “The presence of anxiety is unavoidable, but the prison of anxiety is optional.” Lucado directs our attention to Philippians 4:4-8, which reveals understandable biblical concepts and real-life principles that help us combat anxiety.

This study is not an instant cure for anxiety, neither does it diminish or depreciate how debilitating anxiety can be for some people. The author simply invites us to consider God’s treatment plan for worry, as a means to help us re-frame the way we look at anxiety.

Less Fret, More Faith is a “hands-on” little booklet  we’ll use along with the 7-week study guide, to provide 11 helpful mini action plans to practice and share together. Each week we will watch a video session followed by Bible study and group discussion of work we’ve done during the week.  Join us to take a biblical and practical look at anxiety.

Jonah: Navigating a Life Interrupted by Priscilla Shirer (7 weeks)

Online Thursday 9:30AM, Led by Jodi Morton & Carla Olsen Draper

Unfortunately, we’re all very familiar with life interruptions these days. The question is, how do we respond when God interrupts our lives? Many times, like Jonah, we try to escape what we did not plan and don’t particularly want. Priscilla Shirer redefines interruptions and shows they are actually God’s invitation to be part of something beyond what we could have ever imagined. Through video teaching and group study, we’ll consider Jonah’s life, meet our God and find his grace for our life interruptions.

Take Courage: A Study of Haggai by Jennifer Rothschild (7 weeks)

Designed for in-person but will BEGIN ONLINE (moving to in-person when  AHS restrictions change). Thursday 7PM, Led by Elke Carlson & Debbie Thul

Ever felt like life is out of control and you’re not sure how to pick up the pieces and carry on? Feel uncertain about what is around the corner for you in life? If so, join Elke Carlson and Debbie Thul as they facilitate Take Courage, a study of the book of Haggai by Jennifer Rothschild. This 7-week study looks at the Jewish people and their call to rebuild the temple. The Jews felt the task was too daunting and their skills too small. But the prophet Haggai encouraged them to take courage and trust in God and His plans. Haggai’s words apply to us today, whatever challenges we face. Plan to join us on Thursday evenings as we study God’s word together and learn to live with courage and purpose!
